Weekly Newsletter
Hawk Band
Hi all,
I hope everyone was able to unplug and enjoy their time off for spring break. When we get back, we will hit the ground running as this next month will be incredibly fast and busy for all. This week will be our final rehearsals before our third indoor winds competition. We are looking to keep the first place spot on our scores. On Thursday, the wind ensemble and symphonic band will be performing the UIL selections for a set of judges and get feedback to help them prepare for the UIL Concert and Sightreading on April 4th and 5th. The wind ensemble will also be heading over to Straus MS to do a side by side rehearsal with both middle school bands. This was a huge success last year and is a great way to keep the recruiting for the future going. This Saturday will be our third and final indoor winds competition before heading to the TCGC Championships in Katy, Texas. While this week was great to recharge our batteries, we have to get back to the grind and finish the final 12 weeks of school strong.
Lastly, I want to thank everyone that went on the New York trip and helped make it an incredible experience for all. Chaperones, thank you for keeping an eye on all of our students and managing to keep them safe. I heard nothing but great things about the trip from everyone. The students got a great experience and enjoyed the musical, the Philharmonic, and the boat ride around Ellis Island and much more. If you went on the trip, please fill out the google form sent out in the band app (this includes our parents and chaperones that went on the trip as well). We were able to make some great memories that will never be forgotten. I cannot wait until our next trip.

Dr. Francis Masterclass and More
The tentative date for the Dr. Francis Masterclass this year is going to be April 10th (the early release date). He is going to be giving his wealth of knowledge to the perc ensembles that are READY for it. Below is the list of ensembles that I would like to have perform for him, but again, it depends on WHO is READY.
Mendelssohn
Amidst
Almaty
Blaze
Dots & Dashes (we'll see)
Higuita (we'll see)
A schedule will be posted for these ensembles as we get closer to the actual date.
Then, professors Paul Millette and Sherry Rubins will also be giving their time to coach our percussion ensembles at a later date, with even MORE ensembles being selected for those masterclasses. Why is all of this happening, you might ask? Well.....the goal is to submit recordings to TMEA (San Antonio), PASIC (Indianapolis), and Midwest (Chicago). These are the big time music conventions in the United States, and it's time to see if Harlan Percussion has what it takes to compete at a National level. Who's ready to throw down??
