Hawk Band
Hi Hawk Family,
Congratulations to our colorguard for placing first at their first TECA guard contest of the season at Jourdanton HS. Click HERE to watch the colorguard show. The girls were very excited about their performance and all of the hard work they have put in so far has really paid off. They will continue to improve and clean their show before their next competition comes up on March 4th. Good luck girls as you continue on into the season.
This week, the staff and I will be out at the Texas Music Educators Association Convention being held downtown. We encourage students to attend the convention on Saturday if they are interested. There will be many concerts throughout the day from all of the top players in the state. There will also be an exhibit hall with hundreds of vendors where students can try out instruments, mouthpieces, and purchase music.
This week we will also have some guest performances happening at school. The UTSA Wind Ensemble will be performing for the students on Wednesday. We will block the students from 11:15am-12:30pm so they can come down and watch them perform (If a student needs to attend class instead of watching the performance, they are welcome to do that instead). This will be a great way to see what students can expect if they continue with music in college. Percussionists will also have the Texas Tech Percussion Ensemble coming on Friday at 3pm to perform for them as well. We encourage students to ask any question they may have about these two colleges.

BAND FEE INFORMATION
Parents, band fee statements have been emailed out to everyone. Please make sure you are following the payment plan that was discussed in July. The band fees will continue to roll over into future years and we want to make sure nobody gets left with a statement that is too high to pay. Band Fees are in place to cover costs such as uniform cleaning, performance gear, drill designers, music writers, guest clinicians, marching techs, program designers, drivers, props, flags, upkeep of both trailers, food and much more. We currently have over $27,000 of fees that have not been paid. Please make sure you are staying up to date with your payment plans and submit the payments ASAP. Payments can be made in Cuttime under the student account or with a check/ money order placed inside a sealed envelope with your student's name and placed in the black locked mailbox in the director’s office.
COLORGUARD FEE INFORMATION
Once again congratulations to the colorguard for winning their first competition this past Saturday at Jourdanton HS. The girls have done an outstanding job and the staff and I could not be more happy for them and their director Cindy Tames. With the season on the way, we have been trying to save money where we can for students and families. We are reusing the colorguard uniforms from the fall and have purchased the indoor guard floor using some funds we received from the district. With that said, the students need to be fed while on these longer day trips so we are adding an $80 spring fee that will cover the cost of the meals for the students. We are trying to keep the cost down but do need to add the fee so the students can be fed and fueled properly for their competitions.
BAND YEARBOOK INFORMATION
Band Yearbooks are nearly finished and we have tasked our band officers to help finish the band yearbook. This is separate from the school yearbook as this will only be focused on the band and colorguard. Use the link below to order your band yearbook today. Price before tax is $46.30. Estimated delivery date is 6/13/23.

BPA POSITIONS OPEN FOR 2023-2024
We would like to thank the many hours our band board has put in over this last year. Unfortunately, this current board only has a few months left before senior parents will be graduating. We are now looking ahead to future board members to help fill these spots and continue with the successes the current board has placed. Please consider signing up to be one of our very own band booster board members. We are currently taking nominations for board positions. For more information, please contact president1@harlanhawkband.org.
CONCESSION VOLUNTEER OPPORTUNITIES
While the busy marching season is over, we still have a very busy next few months. Concessions are a BIG part of the money that comes in every year. These concession events do not stop in the Fall. We are REALLY NEEDING help filling each one of these concessions events. You do not need to have any experience and can bring anyone along to help make your experience even more fun. There are only 12 events left in the year and every time we are not able to fill the events with volunteers, we are fined $400.00. This is a huge set back taking these fines. Because we were not able to fill this past Saturday’s concession event, we needed to switch dates with another school and are now booked for two events Wednesday, February 15th. We will need 3 volunteers at each of the events. This truly takes a village to raise these kids and need everyone to step up and help out.
**SEAWORLD PERFORMANCE ANNOUNCEMENT**
We have been invited to perform at the Note-Able Music in the Park Festival on Friday, May 19th at SeaWorld San Antonio. The students that are interested in performing/ attending will take that Friday off from school, perform at the park early in the morning, then get to enjoy a fun-filled day with their band friends around the park. The cost for students will be $80 and the cost for chaperones will be $70. I will be sending out a link to make payments in the near future.
